Spot

the Shield

In March 2025, 21 local night-time economy venues undertook training and certification under the egalitarian’s Safe Place Project. The training was generously funded by the Guernsey Social Investment Fund following an application by SafetyNet.

Under the project, night-time economy staff received specialist training in recognising and responding to situations that may make people feel unsafe, including harassment, vulnerability, or aggression. The training equips staff with practical tools to intervene appropriately, offer support, and ensure incidents are recorded and reported in line with best practice.

Venues that successfully completed the training and met the required standards received Safe Place Project certification. The certified venues (listed below) have demonstrated a commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive environment for all customers and staff.

What

does that mean
for you?

If a venue is certified under the Safe Place Project, it doesn’t mean that incidents will never occur there. What it does mean is that, if something happens and you need help, trained staff will know how to respond and support you appropriately.

In a certified venue, staff are equipped to recognise signs of distress or discomfort, to respond appropriately to reports of incidents, and to offer calm, practical assistance. This might include checking in on someone who appears vulnerable, helping to contact friends or family, or providing a quiet space to wait.

Safe Place venues are committed to ensuring that everyone feels respected, supported, and safe while enjoying their time out.

Which Guernsey venues are certified?

Amigos | Bad Habits | Bar Bar Jay | Fermain Valley Hotel | Good Rebel | Hotel de Havelet | La Reunion | Les Rocquetts Hotel | Moores Hotel | Pingquay | Prince of Wales | Randy Paddle | Rebellion Pizza | Slaughterhouse | St James Guernsey | St Pierre Park Hotel | The Golden Lion | The Imperial | The Rockmount | Thomas De La Rue | Vraiceaters Tavern

Safe Place Project certified venues display a distinctive shield sticker in their window, making them easy to spot. The sticker shows that at least 70% of the venue’s staff have completed the training and are equipped to offer support if you ever feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or need assistance while you’re there.

Spot the Shield Corporate Support

The companies listed below have joined the Spot the Shield campaign to help raise awareness of Safe Place Certified venues and support safer nights out for everyone.

By educating their teams about what the Safe Place Project means, these organisations are empowering staff to recognise the Safe Place shield when they’re out and about, understand how certified venues can offer help, and share that knowledge with others.

Their support shows a genuine commitment to community safety and wellbeing, helping to build a culture where people look out for one another, and where everyone knows that help is available if it’s ever needed.

If your organisation would like to support the Spot the Shield campaign, please email info@safetynet.gg for more information.
